Isoscaling in spectator fragmentation at relativistic energies
نویسندگان
چکیده
The phenomenon of isoscaling is receiving considerable interest because of its relation with the symmetry term in statistical [1] and dynamical [2] descriptions of fragmentation reactions. As reported recently, the symmetry term coefficient γ in the liquid-drop description of the nascent fragments appears to be decreasing from the standard value γ = 25 MeV for isolated nuclei to about 15 MeV or lower for fragments in the hot environment of multifragmentation processes [3, 4]. Similar results were obtained by other groups [5] and interpreted as caused by fragment modifications [6] at the low-density chemical freeze-out [7]. The present study is based on the data collected recently with the ALADIN spectromer, using primary beams of Sn and neutron-poor secondary beams of Sn and La delivered by the FRS fragment separator, all with 600 A MeV incident energy, and natural Sn targets [8, 9].

Dynamical aspects of isotopic scaling
Investigation of the effect of dynamical stage established that the increasing width of initial Gaussian distributions is reflected by significant modification of the slope of final isoscaling plots after deexcitation. For narrow initial Gaussian distributions, the slope of isoscaling plots assumes the limiting value for two individual initial nuclei while for wide initial Gaussian distribution...
متن کاملIsotopic effects in multifragmentation and the nuclear equation of state
Isotopic effects in spectator fragmentations following heavy-ion collisions at relativistic energies are investigated using data from recent exclusive experiments with SIS beams at GSI. Reactions of C on Sn at incident energies 300 and 600 MeV per nucleon were studied with the INDRA multidetector while the fragmentation of stable Sn and radioactive Sn and La projectiles was studied with the ALA...
متن کاملSpectator Fragmentation Induced by Relativistic
In 1998 and 1999, a series of experiments[1] was conducted at the GSI with the INDRA multidetector [2], using high-energy beams from the heavy-ion synchrotron SIS. A part of them was devoted to asymmetric systems like C+Au and C+Sn at bombarding energies ranging from 95 to 1800 AMeV. High resolution at backward angles, dominated by emissions from the target spectator, was achieved with the Si-S...
متن کاملHeavy-Residue Isoscaling as a Probe of the Process of N/Z Equilibration
The isotopic and isobaric scaling behavior of the yield ratios of heavy projectile residues from the collisions of 25 MeV/nucleon 86Kr projectiles on 124Sn and 112Sn targets is investigated and shown to provide information on the process of N/Z equilibration occurring between the projectile and the target. The logarithmic slopes α and β ′ of the residue yield ratios with respect to residue neut...
متن کاملFormation and Decay of Equilibrated Spectator Nuclei at Relativistic Bombarding Energies
In recent experiments with the ALADIN forward-spectrometer multifragment decays of heavy nuclei were studied for a wide range of projectiles and targets and for bombarding energies between 100 and 1000 MeV per nucleon. The systematics available from these data exhibit a pronounced universality for the fragmentation of excited spectators after peripheral collisions of heavy symmetric systems or ...
